Tide Turns Against Extreme Global Warming Hysteria?

Now with working video

Global Warming has been in the news alot lately. Al Gore's opus has won two Oscars, given screen time at all of Scotland's secondary schools, and has raised public awareness about climate change. For a time it seemed that the Gore-version of global warming was set to dominate.

Things seem to be changing. First it was revealed that the Gores use thirty more times the power than the average family. His carbon-offsets which he used to justify his world travel are actually stock in a company he partially owns (which promises to invest them in carbon offshoots but still...). Now the New York Times has written article which attacks Gore's extremist view on global warming. This follows up an opinion from ABC by the former editor of the Journal of Biogeography which discusses extremism in global cooling/warming debates.

Climate change is an issue which should be discussed and dealt with (but remember, the IPCC says we cannot stop global warming). The problem is that some have overblown the threat too far and made it a religion, in the words of the Czech President. When people realize the flaws in Gore's argument they will feel betrayed. They will then doubt any claim on global warming or climate change. There are risks with climate change which must be weighed and considered for the good of globalized world and humanity in general. Crying wolf only hurts protecting the environment.

There are many good people on all sides of the climate change debate who want only what is best. However, some are using the threat of environmental disaster to create a "new world order," curb the power of sovereign states, or expand radical Islam. Those who oppose the dogma/political aims are shunned, accused of working for the oil companies, or in rare cases threatened by nut jobs.

Keep discussion on these issues alive. Climate change could be a minor inconvenience or it could be a great threat no matter what is causing it. To listen to the likes of Al Gore who do believe should not have equal time or even given credence to by the press would potentially lead to disaster. If the breaks of the world's economies need to be slammed we better know for sure that it is necessary before we hurt ourselves and those who rely on our aide.

Below is "The Great Global Warming Swindle" It is one side of the debate. Listen to all sides but remember to be logical and rational with everything you hear.

Hi Catholicgauze! I am very interested in all the information out there regarding global warming, as i find that there is a lot of misinformation on the subject. As you found out yourself the "opinions" are sometimes opposing each other. However the video you posted does not work for me. I don't know whether it is a problem on my part (computer connection, server provider, etc). Just letting you know.

I have read however a very interesting article about a month ago, you might like to look at it it contains a lot of data. And there is evidence that it is actually an ice age prospect we are facing as humanity. Link here, if you want to check it out: http://www.signs-of-the-times.org/articles/show/125454-Fire+and+Ice%3A+The+Day+After+Tomorrow

Keep up the good work and let me know on the video.

The title of the article is, Fire and Ice: the day after tomorrow.

Hi Anonymous,
Here is a the link to the Google Video host site for the movie. Hope this helps. http://video.google.com/url?docid=-4520665474899458831&esrc=sr2&ev=v&q=great+global+warming&vidurl=http://video.google.com/videoplay%3Fdocid%3D-4520665474899458831%26q%3Dgreat%2Bglobal%2Bwarming&usg=AL29H20uSN1SOab2dVlAagpmhk5aQrTn2A

As for another ice age, natural and violent swings of climate are part of earth's history. But remember, it is hard enough to predict tomorrow's weather let alone the climate in the future.

Thank you. Just watched the video. It was long but informative.

I read today that Dr. Wunsch (featured in the movie) professor of physical oceanography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said he had been "completely misrepresented" by the programme, and "totally misled" on its content. It seems to me that somebody is trying to pull the strings in a certain direction on this one, and we all know who benefits: Those in power. But why?

Very good question

Population reduction maybe?

While Paul Ehrlich still uses overpopulation as a weapon there are many reasons people take a stand. Most people on all sides of this debate just want to have a healthy earth while maintaining a good way of life. Some though want to use the issue as a political weapon though. But their reasoning is as diverse as the types of snowflakes.

Two comments, one, LKJ, mentioned in one of the comments, is a lunatic.

The other, its really unfortunate that Al Gore has become this big spokesman in regards to global warming. The guy is a politician. He's not a scientist. He's not a climatologist. And remember that he was Vice President for 8 years, during which time he did practically nothing. Nothing has significantly changed between now and then, and yet its now that he happens to be making propaganda films (and by propaganda I mean merely something that is designed to persuade). And all this after narrowly loosing a presidential election, and then abandoning his own party in the very next election. He is, in my opion, nothing more than an ambitious fraud. People are going to be rejecting sensible, logical information because its associated with him, which is unfortunate.
