Ice Age Britain was a site of many human failures
Humans first came to Great Britain around 700,000 years ago; however, the first sucessful settlement was only 12,000 years ago. The reason was because the ice sheets from the Ice Age would constantly push people out. The move-in and move-out occured seven different times!

Which is a reason why the europeans tend to be a bit more worried about global climate change than americans, by some estimates. Recently, it appears that the Gulf Stream 'shut down' possibly because of arctic ice melt. The gulf stream inputs warm water into the high lattitudes, which is why England, though at a lattitude similar to nova scotia, has a much warmer climate. Northern Europe has the most to loose in such situations.
